Substance abuse problems have been a growing concern for people from all over the world. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the usefulness of a combination between a geographic information system and a multivariate analysis in substance abuse research. However, due to the limited studies on a combination of both these methods in the substance abuse field, we review some other studies in various fields indicating the potential of this method in future substance abuse studies. As the expertise of GIS lies in spatial analysis and the multivariate analysis lies in analyzing huge data thus being capable of interpreting the results very well, we hope this method will attract researchers to applying it in their studies and can consequently and indirectly help in combating substance abuse problems. Keywords: substance abuse; geographic information system; multivariate analysis;  spatial analysis; comba

Family support has a strong impact on individuals and there is no exception in substance abuse recovery process. Family support manages to play a positive role in substance abuse problems. The present study deals with the developing model of family support substance abuser with the combination method of Geographic Information System (GIS) and statistical models. The data used for this study was collected from seven districts in Terengganu with a constant number of respondents. 35 respondents for each district were involved in this study. It was then processed using factor analysis (FA) to develop index of family support. By using the developed indices, GIS tool was used to plot the distribution map of family support indices according to each form of family support. The result indicated that the highest index for all form of family support abuser was located in Besut district. High level of family support is essential as an effort for rehabilitation process of substance abusers

Evaluation of education level and occupation of drug addict factors were undertaken to understand the correlation of socioeconomic factors with drug addiction in Terengganu. Three clusters have been formed after analysis based on education level. The first cluster was formed namely lower drug addicted person, the second cluster namely moderate drug addicted person and the third cluster contributing to the highest number of drug-addicted people in Terengganu namely highest drug addicted person. While the occupation of a drug addicted person classified into three clusters as well. Further analysis using discriminant analysis for education level and type of occupation was determined, and the correlation between the level of education and type of occupation drug addicted person could be ascertained. Primary school had the lowest p-value, same goes for the agriculture. This study has revealed the factors towards the phenomena of drug addiction in the region and offering information to stakeholders involved. By investigating and a better understanding of the relationship between a drug addict and socioeconomic status, the drug addiction control and regulation can be done to eradicate this problem

Lamteng Bay has a very large ecosystem potential. The potential of this large seagrass also supports the abundance of fisheries resources in the area. This study aims to determine the diversity of seagrasses. This research was conducted in December 2018, where the determination of observation stations using the purposive sampling method is based on observations covering the area contained a pier, both small and large docks. The data analysis used is the percentage of seagrass cover (C), density of seagrass species (Di), and seagrass diversity (H'), and to see indicators of the presence of feeding trail left by dugongs and suspecting seagrass preferences which is a favorite dugong as food. The results showed that the composition of seagrass species found in Lamteng Bay waters consisted of three species (Cymodocea serrulata, Halodule pinifolia, Halophila ovalis). The highest seagrass cover by H. pinifolia species was 67.84%, followed by C. serrulata 44.79% and the lowest was H. ovalis species 2.21%. As a whole station, H. pinifolia species have a higher density value compared to the two other seagrass species with values ranging from 55-316 ind/m2. Seagrass diversity is relatively low with values ranging from 0-0.9. The three species of seagrass found were a source of food for the Dugong dugon which was included in his favorite seagrass preference category
